EDU428 Theory and Practice in Teaching and Learning Social Studies in Elementary School

Prepares teachers to facilitate the learning of history and other social sciences for all students in elementary school. Examines the key questions of what should be taught, why and how in the elementary school social studies curriculum, in light of relevant research on the learning and teaching of social studies, state and national standards, and promising practices. Introduces and examines strategies to differentiate instruction so as to meet the needs of diverse students with a range of learning styles and abilities. (Meets content-pedagogy requirement for professional teaching certification).
